Second Chances 36
Recap~"Sure," Nick and I walked off, leaving everyone else.
~
"What did you and Joe talk about?"
"Oh, you know." I shrugged, "just catching up." We were still walking but Nicolas was starring at me, "What?"
"It's just," He shook his head and half smiled. "Gosh, you're so beautiful!"
"Thanks," I blushed. "You wouldn't have thought that 4 days ago," I mumbled but he still heard every word.
"Why?"
"I had a complete makeover, new clothes, new hair and I got contacts. People didn't even recognize me!" I sadly laughed.
He stopped walking and put his hands gently on my shoulders. He looked me in the eyes,"Annabella, you were always beautiful and you always will be. Inside and out." I nodded and looked down. Nicolas lifted my face by putting on hand under my chin, "Hey, hey what's wrong?" I looked up and into his eyes, I couldn't speak, I could barely breath. A look was in his eyes that I couldn't understand. He suddenly dropped his hands, pushed them into his pockets and kept walking. I stood there mesmerized. "You coming?"
"Uh? Yeah," I ran up next to him. We continued walking in silence.
"So, tell me about you." He ordered, not looking at me.
"Um, isn't much to tell; I'm a Sophomore(i think i said thats what she was, dont member) am 15, like to skate board and that is it." I shrugged my shoulders and laughed.
"Okay, I guess I'll have to ask you questions." He looked at me for my permission. I nodded and he continued,
"So do you have a boyfriend?"
"Nope, never have, never will."
"Never will? Why do you say that?"
"Um, no reason I just don't think I'll have a boyfriend."
"Oh,"
"yeah," I said clearly then I mumbled, "Because you're the only one I want."
"What'd you say?"
"Huh? Oh, nothing."
"Oh okay. What's your phone number?"
"I don't have one."
"You don't have a cell phone?! What about a house phone?"
"Well, yeah but it's not like I can talk or text for hours on it."
"Oh, Hm." He stayed quiet for while. thinking."Um, don't get mad but can I ask you something?"
"I won't" I promised.
"Are you and Joe..." He trailed off.
"Me and JOE!?" I laughed, very loud I might add.
"Don't laugh, I mean he had to talk to you and you kissed his cheak and-"
"Nicolas!" I cut him off, "There is NO me and Joe, Joe and I. Never will be. That is just WRONG!"
"Oh, if you say so," he let out a breath.
"Yes, I say so."
"Good," He smiled at me.
"So, what about you? You got a girl?" Please say no.
"Me?" He laughed, am I missing something? "No, I haven't had a girl forever." He snorted then said something under his breath.
"What you say?"
"Oh, nothing."
"Oh, well why? I thought the magazines said... and you even said that you dated?"
"You read about me?" He smirked
"You're changing the subject!"
"I dated a little but it didn't work out, I haven't had a girlfriend since Lilly." Oh, yes. Lilly. She moved across from me when I was 11. They were 'girlfriend and boyfriend' until about a month before they moved, he broke up with her. She was 13, a year old than Nick and a total slut. I don't even know why they dated. I was terribly jealous.
"Oh, Lilly." I made a face.
"You know, I never really got why you didn't like her."
"Um, Nick she tried to end our friendship, almost succeeded I'll add, and was, probably still is, a slut!"
"She did try that but she wasn't a slut."
I sighed, "Fine whatever you say." I walked ahead of him a little.
"Annabella! Come on, that was so long ago, it doesn't mater." He walked fast to catch up with me. When he did he grabbed my arm and turned me to face him. "So, your birthday is coming up, Sweet Sixteen!" He smiled at me and I couldn't help but smile back. "There's that smile."
"What smile?" I smiled wider.
"The one that can bright up any room, make someone's, anyone's even a total stranger, day better. The smile that I have missed for so long."
"Aw, Nicolas," I gave him a hug. He held me tightly and rested his head on mine.
"I love how you call me that," he laughed.
"Well, it's your name." I said, smiling. I am constantly smiling around him, I can't help it. He makes me so happy.
"Yeah, but you make it sound..." he trailed off.
"Make it sound like what?"
"Um, never mind."
"never mind, Nicolas, that is all you have been saying today. Is there something you want to tell me?"
"Um, I-I..." He took a breath and stepped back.

Tooth Friendly Chocolate

An apple a day keeps the dentist away, but now chocolate? Two European companies have created the first ever dentist-friendly chocolate. Their target audience is none other than sweet-toothed youngsters.
STORY:
It looks like chocolate, it tastes like chocolate and it is chocolate but it doesn't rot your teeth.
Barry Callebaut is one of two companies which has just launched dentist-friendly chocolate in, of course, Brussels.
[Marijke De Brouwer, Innovation Manager]:
"The main thing is that the isomaltulose also belongs to the same group as sucrose or saharosa, so it's also sugar. Just the only difference is the isomaltulose, the bacteria in your mouth, they won't attack that sugar which they will attack if it's sucrose or saharosa, so that's the main difference, but it is also a sugar."
So a different type of sugar is the secret. But does it taste any different?
[Marijke De Brouwer, Innovation Manager]:
"82 Percent of the kids - they really liked it. And I think the only proof you get that they really, really like it is when they ask for a second piece. And that happened."
The Belgian chocolate company Smet is also producing a range of tooth-friendly chocolate aimed at children.
Both ranges have been approved by the oral health organization Tooth Friendly International. And they carry a "Happy Tooth" logo on their packaging.
The new ranges are good news for youngsters in particular. But while they may be ok for teeth they're not so good for the waistline - they still have the same calories as most conventional chocolate products.
